1Sky is a
campaign dedicated to aggregating a massive nationwide (U.S.) movement by communicating
a positive vision and a coherent set of national policies that rise to the
scale of the climate challenge before us. John is a member.
Acceleration Studies Foundation (ASF):
"Improving the Way We Look at the Future;" an educational nonprofit
engaged in outreach, education, research, and selective advocacy with respect
to communities and technologies of accelerating change; John serves as an
advisor for ASF.
Alliance for a New Humanity
recognizes at the core of its vision the unity of all life, and a wholehearted
adherence to the noblest aspirations of humankind, as proclaimed in all
spiritual and humanist traditions that call for compassion and the celebration
of life; founded by Deepak Chopra.
The Alliance
for Climate Protection is a
nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice
President Al Gore. Its ultimate aim is to halt global warming - specifically
educating people in the US and around the world that the climate crisis is both

The Association for Spirit
at Work (ASAW): A membership organization founded in October
2001 for people and organizations interested in the role of Spirit in business
and organizational life; sponsors the annual International Spirit at Work
Awards which John co-created with Judi Neal, ASAW founder.
AthenaOnline Business Knowledge Network is an
Internet-based e-learning network for executives; affiliated with The
Institute for Management Studies; Athena has produced a selection of video
SmartBytes featuring a faculty that includes John, Russell Ackoff, Tony Buzan
and other prominent authors and academics on a variety of topics.
Awakening the Dreamer
Symposium: a four to six hour workshop that explores the
link between three of humanity's most critical concerns: environmental
sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment; hosted by Pachamama Alliance; allows
participants to gain a new insight into the very nature of our time, and the
opportunity we have to shape and impact the direction of our world with our
everyday choices and action. John has participated in the symposium and added
its mission as his own.
Berrett-Koehler Publishers,
Inc.: Publishers of progressive business books; based in San Francisco,
California; have published some of John's created anthologies - two in
paperback and one in hardcover.
Business for Social
Responsibility:
Membership organization of companies striving to be commercially successful while
respecting ethical values, people, communities and the environment.
Canadian Index of Wellbeing is a
transformational initiative that will report on the wellbeing of
Canadians. It also plays a role in the global movement toward more holistic
ways of measuring the progress of societies
The Center for Leadership Studies: founded in
the Fall of 2004, offers an accredited Masters of Arts in Organizational
Leadership (MAOL) degree, in collaboration with the Graduate Institute of
Connecticut; John serves as a member of their leadership faculty.
The Centre for Spirituality and the Workplace
(established in 2004) is the first academic-based centre for spirituality and
work in Canada. Housed in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s
University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Centre is both a centre for academic
activities and a centre of influence in the community, the nation, and the
world.
Collective Wisdom Initiative came into
being in 2002 with support of the Fetzer Institute and is attempting to call into
awareness the field of collective consciousness; a group of self-selected
individual writers, thinkers and practitioners working to build this discipline
of collective wisdom, its study and practice; membership is open to anyone
interested in this discipline. John is a member.
The Declaration of Global
Citizenship is a public resolution where citizens declare their commitment and act
in such a way as to transform “transform global issues and thereby
themselves for the collective good.” John contributed to the initial draft and
has signed it.
Ecological Footprint Quiz estimates how much productive land
and water you need to support what you use and what you discard. After
answering 15 easy questions you'll be able to compare your Ecological Footprint
to what other people use and to what is available on this planet.
Geodesic Consulting
Executive Coaching: founded by executive coach and consultant Joe Murphy who has over
twenty years of experience in designing and implementing unique employee
involvement approaches to help companies reach their strategic objectives; John
offers mentoring sessions through Geodesic.
The Global Dialogue Center: a virtual
gathering place for people throughout the world with a focus on leadership, professional
and personal development --- a place to think, question, explore new ideas,
learn and connect with a purpose: helping us all become more effective leaders
of our organizations, communities, schools, governments and families; John has
participated in several GDC programs, archived on its website..
Global Futures and Foresight is a
strategic futures think tank formed in September 2006, spawned by Global
Futures Forum; draws on a global network of specialist researchers and
consultants to provide practical and actionable insight and advice on future
trends and opportunities.' John is a member.
Global MindShift: Created in
2005, its mission is to help bring about a new era of cooperation and
creativity on the planet; includes inclusive online conversations that make it
possible for more and more people to creatively participate in forming new
responses to natural and human challenges.
The Graduate Institute: Invested
in the belief that transdisciplinary scholarship will give rise to new
knowledge that is ineffably greater than the sum of its parts, The Institute is
committed to creating graduate programs in emerging fields with an appropriate
methodology for learning and teaching.
The Hoffman Institute: Offers the
Hoffman Quadrinity Process - an intense eight day retreat that gets people in
touch with mental, physical, emotional and spiritual parts of themselves at a
core level. John did the Process in 1992 and is a strong advocate. Offered in
various locations throughout the US.
Howard Thurman Forum Series: names
after the Rev. Howard Thurman (1900-1981) who co-founded The Fellowship Church of
All People's in San Francisco in 1944 - the first interracial,
interfaith church in the U.S., this free lecture series features spiritual
teachers and inspirational authors; John serves as convener/moderator for the
Series.
The Institute at Sedona: .a Southwest U.S. bed and breakfast that accommodates visiting
seekers and conscious travelers, helping to expand minds, instigate social
change, and trigger personal and planetary growth; hosts retreats, think tanks,
and workshops; forum for uplifting evolutionary ideas. John has partaken of the
hospitality at the Institute’s accommodations.
Institute of Noetic
Sciences (IONS): A non-profit organization;
founded in 1973 by astronaut Edgar Mitchell; researches and publishes papers on
the development of the mind and consciousness; based in Petaluma; Willis Harman
was president from 1977 to 1996, shortly before his passing. John is a long
time supporter-member and has spoken at several of their events.
International Museum of Women was
originally founded as the Women's Heritage Museum in 1985. In 1997, in response
to growing support, the Board began developing plans for a major museum in San
Francisco and changed its name.
International Simultaneous Policy Organisation (ISPO) co-ordinates the Simultaneous Policy (SP) campaign and
facilitates the formulation of SP’s policy content at the global level. ISPO is
accountable to its NSPO members who agree to accept ISPO’s
Founding Declaration.
International Society for
Philosophers: Based in UK and founded by Geoffrey
Klempner, the Society's objective is the promotion of philosophy for all and
its practical benefits, primarily through the medium of the internet; publishes
Philosophy for Business to which John has contributed articles.
London Perret Roche Group
LLC: New Jersey-based consulting firm which was co-founded by Peter
Roche and Solange Perret in the mid-1980s; LPR Group facilitates large-scale
rapid and substantive change in business organizations. John has worked with
LPR on several projects.
The Long Now Foundation was
established in 1996 to become the seed of a very long term cultural institution
and hopes to provide counterpoint to today's "faster/cheaper" mind
set and promote "slower/better" thinking and to creatively foster
responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years; founded by Stewart
Brand; hosts monthly lectures in San Francisco; video archives available to
members; John is a founding member.
The Millennium Project of the
American Council for the United Nations University is a global participatory
futures research think tank of futurists, scholars, business planners, and
policy makers who work for international organizations, governments,
corporations, NGOs, and universities;
New Voice of Business is a
newly-formed membership organization breaking the mindset of “business as
usual” in order to create a better future. They believe in the enormous power
and creativity of business and business people to step up to a new and positive
leadership role in addressing the enormous challenges and opportunities facing
our nation and world today. John is a member.
The Pachamama Alliance is a non-profit
organization whose mission is
to preserve the Earth's tropical rainforests by empowering the indigenous
people who are its natural custodians and contribute to the creation of a new
global vision of equity and sustainability for all; founded by Bill and Lynne
Twist. John is a
“partner” (financial contributor).
The Peace Alliance is a inclusive,
nonpartisan, proactive, solution oriented movement working to create campaign
for a U.S. Dept. of Peace and Nonviolence; an historic citizen lobbying effort;
there is currently a bill before the U.S. House of Representatives (HR 808)
which will augment current problem-solving options, provide practical,
nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict.
Pierre Terre Productions is an
independent media company producing webcast and broadcast video stories of
wisdom, value, intelligence and good intent. Far more than just 'feel good'
stories, Pierre's stories bring the good to light and the heroic to our
doorsteps. The incredible becomes the possible. Anyone is invited to send them
videos for possible posting on their website.
The Presidio Dialogues (TPD): A monthly
series of evening meetings in San Francisco at The Saybrook Graduate School
& Research Center - dedicated to consciousness and business; different
"dialogue starters" are featured each month; John co-founded TPD in
2000 and turned it over to Saybrook in 2004.
Quoteland: A library
of various quotes by John and many others on a variety of subjects; formerly
"Land of Quotes;" founded by David Borenstein in 1997; offers
products such as coffee mugs and plaques on which quotes can be engraved.
Radical Middle: published
monthly by Mark Satin, author of Radical Middle: The
Politics We Need Now; delightfully
centered and balanced with equal disregard for extreme views from either left
or right.
Search for Common Ground: Founded in
1982 by John Marks, works to transform the way the world deals with conflict -
away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving; its
global projects and initiatives deal with cross-border and cultural conflict
issues. John is a supporter and friend to the Marks and Search.
The Shaping Tomorrow
Foresight Network helps members to help each other
anticipate change, explore best practice and co-create the future through this
public site and our main site; members include leading future thinkers,
strategists, and change agents from commercial, not-for-profit and governmental
organizations around the world as well as many directors and executives. John
is a member..
The Sustainable Futures
Foundation (SFF): aims to
help create a world where investment with social, environmental and ethical
consideration is the universal norm; dedicated to promoting Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) and Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) internationally,
develop and run CSR courses to promote the adoption of CSR
initiatives organizationally; John serves as an advisor.
Systemantics, The
Underground Text of Systems Lore: Four
editions of this little-known book that takes a tongue-in-cheek look at complex
human systems and how they behave (or misbehave); looks at how systems work and especially how they fail; John's
favorite book on systems; written by John Gall.
TED (Technology,
Entertainment, Design): Spreading ideas; more than 100 lively,
pertinent talks (no more that 20 mins each) from video archive which can be
freely shared and reposted; TED believes in the power of ideas to change
attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world.
Thought Leader Gatherings are an
invitational-only, membership learning community of visionaries
representing Minnesota and California/Bay Area organizations; hosted by The
Heartland Institute (Craig and Patricia Neal); calls together an eclectic
community of organizational change agents combining visionary and "on the
ground" discourse to ensure both breakthrough ideas and concrete action;
John is one of several VisionHolders for Heartland.
UN Global Compact is a
framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and
strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the
areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption . As the
world's largest, global corporate citizenship initiative, the Global Compact is
first and foremost concerned with exhibiting and building the social legitimacy
of business and markets.
Veriditas, The Voice of the Labyrinth Movement, a
non-profit organization dedicated to introducing people to the healing,
meditative powers of the labyrinth. The work of Veriditas centers around the
Labyrinth Experience as a personal practice for healing and growth, a tool for
community building, an agent for global peace and a metaphor for life..
Willis Harman House in Sao
Paulo, Brazil was founded by a small group of business people inspired by the
late Willis Harman; WHH is aligned with World Business Academy, the Club of
Budapest, IONS, The Natural Step and other global organizations in this genre';
John visited the WHH in 2004 and again in 2006.
WiserEarth is a
community directory and networking forum for not for profit and
non-governmental organizations addressing the central issues of our day:
climate change, poverty, the environment, peace, water, hunger, social justice,
conservation, human rights, and more. Content is created by people like you
from around the world. John is a
member.
WorldChanging.com; works
from a simple premise: that the tools, models and ideas for building a better
future lie all around us. That plenty of people are working on tools for
change, but the fields in which they work remain unconnected.
Angeles Arrien: Author of The
Four Fold Way and contributing author to two of the anthologies John
created (serving as editor for Working Together: Producing Synergy by
Honoring Diversity), also established a foundation for cross cultural
studies.
James A. Autry is a former Fortune 500 CEO,

Bernard Lietaer, Research

Alan Parisse is a
long-time friend of John's; named "One of the Top 21 Speakers for the

Howard Thurman (1900 - 1981): author, philosopher, theologian, educator and civil rights leader;
co-founded the first racially integrated, intercultural church in the United States, the Church for the Fellowship

Peter Turla: A
long-time friend of John's who specializes in corporate trainings and

Lynne Twist: Co-author
